Control Room

Here's a photo of the WCAU-TV control room from 1622 Chestnut Street in Center City Philadelphia. Note the image in the monitors seems to look like Douglas Edwards who did the CBS-TV Evening News (Douglas Edwards with the News) at that time. The Edwards newscast started on the network in May of 1948 and lasted 14 years.

Long-time tech for WCAU-TV Charlie Higgins told us:

The switcher seen in the photo was made by GE, dubbed the "Blue Goose" because of the standard color scheme used by GE. This switcher was used at 1622 Chestnut Street and never at City Line. The switcher at City Line was custom built and designed for WCAU by RCA.
