One of the warmest people ever to work in Philadelphia television was Jim O'Brien. He came to Philly as a "Boss Jock" on Famous 56, WFIL Radio, but he wanted to move into television. In late 1971, he got the nod at Channel 6 as "a try out." It lasted over a decade. He also anchored some of the earlier (in the day) newscasts, but he will forever be remembered as a weathercaster. Here's four off-air stills from his time at Channel 6. The first is Jim O'Brien on WFIL Radio. It's from footage shot by Channel 6 for a TV promotion. Next is O'Brien report from the Cape in April of 1981 for the launch of the first space shuttle. Then there's a shot of Jim being silly and finally the real Jim O'Brien. The last one is a still from "AM Philadelphia" hosted at that time by Broadcast Pioneers member Dave Roberts. Jim was a guest on the show in 1983.
